FLORA-FAUNA:
The flora of the area is very rich, the mountain of Pelion is covered in woods consisting mainly of broad-leaved deciduous trees. In the high zone of the mountain, the vegetation is winder and there are extensive woods of oak chestnut, and beech.

In the lower regions, self-sown bushes, myrtles, laurel and other dominate. Pelion, like the other mountains of the country of Magnesia (Tissaio, Othrys and Mavrovouni), is covered with the dense vegetation, both cultivated and wild, that has been useful in medicine since antiquity (1,000 species of herbs and medicinal plants such as henbane, nightshade, bittersweet, wild nard, thorn apple, hemlock, meadow saffron and other).
The fauna contains many mammals 9such as wolves, jackals, foxes, wild rabbits etc.) birds (hawks, partridges, wild pigeons, wild ducks and other) and reptiles (adders, tortoises and lizards among them) some of which have, unfortunately, tended to disappear due to tourism.

Pelion has, since antiquity, been known for its healthy climate. The coexistence of the mountains with the woods and the rich water; the Aegean sea, creates the perfect climatic conditions in the area. In the summer it is usually cool and pleasant whilst the winter, even when the mountain is converted for a long time with snow, is not as severe as it is in the mountains of mainland Greece.

The western slopes of Pelion in particular, being protected from the chilly winds of the sea, have a ‘sweet’ winter suitable for every activity. The rest of the region of Magnesia, Volos and the west coast of Pagasitic Guilf, share in the gifts of the mountain; the coolness in the summer and the protection from the sea winds in winder. The average maximum temperature of Volos in the summer is quite low, about 26ï C, and the average lowest temperature during the winter reaches 7,6ï C. 26ï C, åíþ ç ìÝóç åëÜ÷éóôç èåñìïêñáóßá áããßæåé ôï ÷åéìþíá ôïõ 7,6ï C.
